Below is our second student contribution to the Barnacle House blog. This post was written by grade 9 student Mark Finamore, speaking about his experience at WE Day in Vancouver.
Last weekend, I was fortunate enough to attend We Day, an internationally known event where young people across the world are invited to attend one large celebration. You can not buy a ticket to We Day, but can only earn it through service and the helping of others. I am actively involved in the “MetoWe” club at SMUS and we did several service activities including a leaf rake, assembling back packs for the homeless, etc. to be apart this inspiring experience.
At We Day, hundreds of influencial actors, politicians, artists, musicians, and other public figures are invited to speak and share what they have to say to the world. I learned a lot about myself and see things through a different prospective after attending this event. I met and got to know many inspiring people, such as Margaret Trudeau, Karina LeBlanc, Stephanie Labbe, and Lilly Singh. Each of them told me how much potential there is in each and every person but how it is up to you to create your own unique path takes that leads you into the future. I was also told that if your dreams didn’t scare you, they weren’t big enough.
